End of 2009, start of 2010

December 28th, 2009

Once again, we are moving to a new year. 2009 has been a year of strategic change for Ta with you, and we are satisfied with the final results. We hope that 2010 brings us and our clients even more success, a consequence of well done hard work. Happy 2010 to you all!

In the Chinese culture, it is the year of the tiger. The tiger is a sign of courage, a fearless and fiery fighter, who wards off the three main disasters of a household: fire, thieves and ghosts… No doubt, 2010 will be a 10!

Red Herring Global Finalist

The year ended with the nomination of Ta with you as a finalist for the Global Red Herring award, a prestigious list honoring the year’s most promising private technology ventures from around the world. The nominees are evaluated on both quantitative and qualitative criteria, such as financial performance, technology innovation, quality of management, execution of strategy, and integration into their respective industries.

Finalists for the 2009 edition of the Red Herring Global 100 award are selected from the regional recipients or finalists of the Red Herring 100 awards in 2007, 2008, or 2009 ranging from Asia, Europe, and North America. Here you can find the official list selected over 1200 applicants, where you can see that our company is the only Spanish company this time!

During the past days, our CEO participated in several events. As the President of Xarxa Onion, he presented the Jam Session between Xavier Verdaguer and Dídac Lee, two of the greatest entrepreneurs in Barcelona and surroundings. It was inspiring to see how you can conquer the world with ambition but also with the finest humility. Thanks for coming and sharing your experience with us.

Dídac Lee, Xavier Verdaguer, Montserrat Capdevila, Diego Bartolomé

Another event to foster entrepreneurship was carried out at CETT. More than 200 students attended to listen to the experiences of four entrepreneurs, namely Joan Coll, Sandra Gard, Jordi Vilaseca, and Diego Bartolomé. 2010 is a good year to start your own business, specially if you are young, you have nothing to lose! We’ll keep on working to help our young professionals grow and start their own business when they are ready.

This week …

December 15th, 2009

… is indeed a full week, it seems that before Christmas a lot of events and activities are carried out. In 8 days, our PR agenda is almost fully booked!

It started on Monday with the meeting organized by Barcelona Activa in the brand new Hotel Vela, where a number of international entrepreneurs and investors had a great Japanese/Chinese dinner together. It was a great chance to meet not only the best entrepreneurs in Europe participating in the European Venture Contest Award, but also well-known investors, and many friends from Barcelona.

On Tuesday, Caja Navarra has organized an event to empower entrepreneurs. Indeed, in the previous years, there were gurus that motivated us, such as the CEO of Yo! Sushi and Guy Kawasaki’s Art of the Start book in 2008, but this time, Enrique Goñi, CEO of the Savings Bank, disclosed in his speech that they are creating a 40M€ fund to invest in Technology, Media, and Telecom (TMT) all over Europe. This has motivated a number of comments in twitter … It’s great that new tools appear in the scene to help entrepreneurs grow and become powerful internationally, ambition is one of the key ingredients to success.

On Thursday, our CEO will participate in a debate organized by the CETT, which will deal about entrepreneurship and tourism. It is a great chance to boost the entrepreneurial feeling of young students finishing their Masters at the school. On Friday, our Technology Park (La Salle) is organizing a Christmas event, and we will be there to meet old friends.

Finally, a great surprise is coming on Monday, organized by Xarxa Onion, a jam session between Dídac Lee and Xavier Verdaguer.

Stay tuned … we’ll keep you posted!

What can we do for you?

November 21st, 2009

We are the technology partner for our clients, mostly translation companies.

Besides our proprietary hybrid (statistical + rule-based) solution, we think you shall know three additional things our customers are using.

  1. Detection/translation of the text in images. Thanks to our experience in the mobile world, we have built customized solutions to extract text from images, which is very useful in the translation market as well. Since we are focused on translation, we welcome proposals for our T-Image! solution.
  2. Tauyou aligner. We align texts, no matter the format, the size, or the number of files. Thanks to our statistical technology, if you are a company with a high number of documents, we can help you build translation memories and dictionaries, which will ultimately help our engine work better.
  3. Customer interaction. Combined with natural language processing tools, our solutions are being introduced within multilingual customer relationship management (CRM) systems and processes, basically to reduce the high costs involved.
  4. Consulting. We can help you define your translation/localization process and methodology, and identify the critical parts (in terms of cost and time) so as to obtain the best global solution with the best partners. During tough times, this becomes extremely important.

Industry news

November 20th, 2009

In the last weeks, there has not been much activity in this blog, we will try to summarize some very interesting articles/news for our industry.

First, Adam Wooten discusses here the size of the machine translation market after a research carried out by Wintergreen Research.

Microsoft has released its API for translation. It is a necessary feature to compete with Google and enables developers to integrate easily a necessarily free multi-engine machine translation system. Although it is not competition for our company, the more the people know the advantages and drawbacks of MT, the better for us to explain our value proposition for companies.

Lionbridge announced the upcoming release of Translation Workspace, a software as a service (SaaS) product to freelancers, translation agencies, and enterprises, read this post for further details.

Besides, we have some announcements as well, read our next post!
